Blue Day For The Rooster

- Separated at birth.....
18.9.2011
In very warm and windy conditions at Meningie yesterday Imperials dominated the Grand Final in every area to bring home the club's 20th premiership flag in it's 80th year. Catain Ash Temby won the toss and elected to kick to the town end. The breeze was pushing across the oval but favoured this direction.
Ramblers kicked the first three goals as the Blue Army was silenced. From this point forward Imperials banged on 14 goals to 2 and the championship was in the palm of new coach Shane Collin's hand by 3/4 time. The catalyst for the turn around was the exemplary work in the centre by ruckman Adam Davey, on ballers Boyd Kenny, Jamie Honner and "Joel Selwood" like Sam Reden. Enter 16 year wiz kid Dwayne Wilson who danced around Rooster defenders like they were witches hats and finnished off with successive goals. The Roosters had no answer's to the Davey/Kenny combination, camparable to Cox/Kerr in the West.
The "Rolls Royce" Tyson Wait played to his exceptional standard finnishing a stellar year with the Patron's medal for "Best On" in the GF. This now sits alongside his Premiership Medal, "Player of the Year award" and Mail Medal in his 2011 trophy cabinet. It would arguably have been the most dominant performance by and individual player in the recent history of the RMFL Grand Final.
The amazing recovery from injury by Luke Harrowfield gave the occasion the X factor going into the game with many doubting a servicable contribution. Luke as always put the Doubting Thomas's to bed with an astonishing 5 goal haul on the end of hard gut running, committment to 50/50 contests and sublime aerial work.
When the final siren sounded jubilation took over as the 2011 RMFL curtain was drawn. It was a fascinating season with twists and turns which saw bottom placed Meningie topple eventual premiers Imperials in round 8 by 17 points.

Bell Rings Third Time In A Row
The Imperial Reserves tamed a timid tiger by 29 points to claim it's third flag in a row. Travis Lienert showed his years of experience to win the Best On. William Lipp played what many see as a break out game with guile and cunning and with a solid pre-season should be knocking an the A Grade door in 2012.
Ryan Edwards league experience shone out across half back thwarting many Mypolonga forward attempts. John Vogan never plays a bad finals game and his attack and tenacity is infectious, rubbing off on his team mates. Greg Bell had the Ressies flag parcelled up half way through the last which propelled the league side onto eventual glory.
Imperials 8-12 (60) def Mypolonga 4-7 (31).

Wombat's Warriors Do The Job
The under 15s won their third straight flag with a gritty win over Mypolonga. The game was never in the bag, holding onto a slender 11 point buffer at 3/4 time. A final 2 goal to nil quarter saw the Blues home for the third successive year in the grade. Captain Ayden Hall did a "Harry Wait" in getting Best On in the GF in alongside the Mail Medal and Premiership. The Wright boys showed their dominance in defence and on the ball as they were the insurance in the campaign.
Kyle Daish was active up forward and alongside Mitch Lienert they finnished with 5 goals beetween them. Wombat is still pinching himself after crossing the road three years ago to play and Coach the under 15s. He has 5 premiership medalions around his neck.

In memory of Stephanie............
July 12, 2010 was the day in which the Imperial Football Club was sadenned by the tragic death of Stephanie Leahy.
12 months later, the Stephanie leahy Cup was born to remember Stephanie and to remind us all of the risks and choices we have when we use the road.
The Tailem Bend Football Club was a great choice to share this event and we thank them for supporting the cause. The Motor Accident Commision played a major role to elevate the status of the event, an ideal vehicle to help them to campaign and educate the consequences of road accidents and the impact on young sporting communities.
Please view the short video and ask how you could deal with such a tragedy and what you can do when you choose to get behind the wheel or in the car with another driver.
